Television was one of the most creative bands to emerge from New York's underground scene of the mid-'70s, creating an influential new guitar vocabulary. While guitarists Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd liked to jam, they didn't follow the accepted rock structures for improvisation — they removed the blues while retaining the raw energy of garage rock, adding complex, lyrical solo lines that recalled both jazz and rock. With its angular rhythms and fluid leads, Television's music always went in unconventional directions, laying the groundwork for many of the guitar-based post-punk pop groups of the late '70s and '80s. In the early '70s, Television began as the Neon Boys, a group featuring guitarist/vocalist Tom Verlaine, drummer Billy Ficca, and bassist Richard Hell. At the end of 1973, the group reunited under the name Television, adding rhythm guitarist Richard Lloyd.

Television

(Verlaine)
De Soto
Has a cool shark fin
My humble abode
Hey, uh, where I've been
Poochie Poochie,
No, no applause,
Four enchiladas, Senor,
Extra sauce...
Just one face card and one ace
Put my game back in place
Crystal honey, where you been?
Turn a corner and my heart just goes boom-boom!
Boom-boom!
Boom-boom!
Boom-boom!
I know it's stupid,
But what care I?
I got wheels that slide
Where you got a mind
You pink and blue
Shiny vinyl hardware,
And white socks too
Just one face card and one ace
Put my game back in place
Crystal honey, baby where you been?
Turn a corner and my heart just goes boom-boom!
Boom-boom! (yeah)
Boom-boom!
Boom-boom! (yeah)
Long before my time
And after too
This magnificent love
Me for you
They say it's folly
To pay and pay,
And you're no good,
I guess I like it that way
Just one face card and one ace
Put my game back in place
Crystal honey, baby where you been?
Turn a corner and my heart just goes boom-boom!
Crystal, hey where you been?
Boom-boom!
Boom-boom!
Just one face card and one ace
Put my game back in place
Crystal honey, baby where you been?
Turn a corner and my heart just goes boom-boom!
Boom-boom! (yeah)
Boom-boom!
Boom-boom! (yeah)
